The debut album from Constellation Myths’ arrives in one week, Wednesday, October 20. The Massachusetts post-rock Americana project releases Everything and Time after unveiling a string of four singles, accompanied with b-sides to be featured on the LP, and you can read all about the process and vision behind the record here.
In advance of next week’s unveiling, the band shared some insight on the Everything and Time album artwork, crafted by band vocalist Molly Seamans, below.
“The album cover art (image 1) along with the art for the accompanying singles (image 2) is designed around the ‘celestographs’ of August Strindberg (image 3). These were images created by Strindberg in the 1890s by leaving photo-sensitized plates out on the ground in an attempt to capture the heavens. He called them ‘celestographs’ (‘celeste’=sky, ‘graph’=to write).
However, these images don’t depict the night sky at all; the ‘celestial’ spots are caused by dust, dirt, and other chemicals mixing with the photo-emulsion. An attempt to capture the heavens that is ultimately an image of earthly failure, they appealed to us aesthetically and thematically.
These false representations of the night sky worked well with the graphic-based idea Molly had for the artwork (image 4, real rough sketches of the design concept).”
